Is Coconut Palm a Tree?

Botanically the coconut tree is not even a tree, because it does not have branches,” Goa Environment Minister Rajendra Arlekar said, setting off a debate on international botany sites as the news made waves internationally.

At Eco Shamba Kilole Lodge we are using coconut wood from no-productive palms been cut because at risk of falling.

We have been using them for tables, chairs, shelves, and door.

Coconut wood can be a promising material for the manufacture of furniture, novelties, and other handicrafts due to its beautiful grain and attractive natural appearance. High-value coconut wood products which include furniture, decorative interior walls, parquet floors, various novelties and curio items like walking sticks, ashtrays, hammer handles, egg cups, plates, bowls, vases, etc. are equally, if not more than, comparable to the traditional wood species commonly used in the furniture industry as far as appearance is concerned. Hence, with effective product promotion, quality furniture, and other high-value coconut wood products can have a potential share not only in the domestic but also in the world markets.

The chopped materials from the palm are also used for Biomass Power Plant at Ngombeni (south of Mafia Island).

Ngombeni biomass power plant in Mafia island had been out of service since February 2017. The analysis assumed that the equipment would be replaced or repaired with costs similar to the original cost and that the power plant would resume operations in 2019.

Another Eco Furnitures idea at Shamba Kilole Eco Lodge is “Old Boats Wood”!

We make tables, stools, shelves, and other beautiful pieces of furniture!

Last, but not least, we use wood from tree pruning.

Again, you will find chairs, coaches, pool beds, hangers and so on!

As you can see, we can use recycled wood for many different pieces of furniture.

Recycling, re-purposing, reclaiming, even up-cycling – the terms are banded around everywhere but what do they actually mean?  Here at The Wooden Furniture Store, we think that they ultimately come down to the same thing – the reusing of materials to create something new.  If you’re trying to live a more sustainable, Eco-friendly life.

I am telling you a secret … we have found many of this idea in this database  … more than 16000 different plans!!!

  1. Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I am very glad to see such fantastic information being shared freely out there.
